Bet you didn't know this about Oliver

In the penultimate interview in our SnowGate staff series, we chat to Oliver Bailey, Office Manager and Valuer, who remains a big football player years after receiving a football net for Christmas at the age of 8. He loves making curry and his mum once tried to muscle in on a Coronation Street star’s Lanzarote beach holiday. But that’s only part of the story. Read the rest here.

First Holiday memory

It was 24 years ago and we spotted Sally Webster from Coronation Street on the beach in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. My mum tried to get me and my brother to go and mix with her children so she could meet Sally – which inevitably happened!

Favourite Christmas or birthday present (either received or given)

A large football net for the garden which Santa brought for Christmas when I was about 8 years old and it lasted until I left the family home!

Favourite school teacher and why

It seemed to be the PE teachers I got on with best. Chilled out, good banter and a shared love of sport. Mr James (7MJ) and Mr Tunnacliffe (11MT) to name a couple!

Favourite sport (either as a participant or spectator)

I enjoy most sports, but football would have to be number one. I’m a season ticket holder at Huddersfield Town and try to play 5-a-side once a week.

Most embarrassing/awkward social moment (that's publishable lol)

I was in Temple Bar in Dublin with a mate a few years back.  Ireland v South Africa had played that afternoon and we discovered the South Africa rugby squad were actually in the bar. It was a great atmosphere and we then got talking to some of the team and coaching staff. The Guinness took over and we told them we were big on the professional rugby scene which they went along with for the next hour or so.  But we ended up tripping ourselves up when we realised we knew very little about rugby or who any of the international players were! Funny but slightly awkward in the end but Guinness saved the embarrassment!

Describe your perfect house/home

My perfect home would be located in a rural village, modern and contemporary style but with plenty of original character features, open plan living kitchen, open fire, bi-folding doors opening to a large garden with great views. Lots of walks nearby ending up at a nice country pub!

Favourite band or music genre

I love live music. Favourite bands/artists include; Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Fleetwood Mac.

Tell us about a talent which people might not know you have

It's hidden for a reason. Even I’m unaware of it!

Favourite food either to eat or to cook

I’m a real foodie but if I had to choose one I’d probably go for curry. Enjoy cooking and eating it!

Grain, grape, hops, or none?

None? Is that really an option?! I do enjoy my real ale, oh and single malt and red wine!
