Safe and secure? Stay safe this winter

Apart from making sure your home is as energy efficient as possible, now is the time to look at the security of your home. Darker nights and shorter days mean that your property is more at risk under the cover of darkness.

Check out these simple tips that only cost time, and not much money.

For instance:

  • Don’t leave spare keys visible near windows or doors
  • Get into the habit of locking doors as you come in
  • Close and lock all windows
  • Put a low energy indoor light on a timer when you’re away from the house, and leave the radio on. Even with rising energy costs, this is a small outlay to make your home look occupied.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your garden shed, unless it’s highly secure.
  • Check the locks on your garage door, and any access doors.
